Reduced Essential Driver Training (EDT) programme
Foreign license holders who cannot exchange their license in Ireland can take a reduced Essential Driver Training (EDT) program, which includes 6 driving lessons instead of the usual 12 and waives the 6-month waiting period for the driving test.
How do I qualify for reduced EDT/and exemption from the six-month rule?
You must hold a foreign driving licence.
You must have held a licence for at least two years before the issue of your Irish learner permit.
Your licence must not have expired more than six months on the date of receipt of the application form.
You must be a resident in Ireland.
You must hold an Irish learner permit.
